IP with computational chemistry?

I am currently working towards my masters in computational chemistry, and thinking of going into IP as a possible career. However I am unsure if I would need to get my phd first. I know for bio sciences you probably need an phd, but does the fact I use extremely computer competent (as it is a main part of my research) as well as knowledgeable in chemistry increase my worth to the point where I only require a masters? What would you guys recomend?
