working for the Navy (not JAG)

The Navy is interviewing me for OGC (general counsel). The Navy website does not have much information. I want to do IP related work. Working for the Navy seems recession proof, but definitely less $$. Anyone have advice on how to research the Navy? Any experience?

Is it a GS job directly for the Navy or is it a contracting job where you work for a civilian company that has a DoD contract?

I have an interview set up with them next week and I am also curious. Tons of info out there on JAG, but not civilian attorneys who work for the office of the GC. According to the info I found, there are about 650 of these positions, and are located at the pentagon. Couldn't find any definitive salary info though, but I would guess $65-$75 maybe?

Take it. I think I know what type of job it is, as I have a friend at DoD doing something similar, if not the same.

Essentially, you'd likely be working at the Department of Navy OGC, likely for SECNAV, and quite possibly SECDEF. Pay may be less, but the experience and connections you will make are worth it. Plus, if it's GS, you're getting some solid Fed benefits and working towards that almighty retirement.

This is one of those positions that are hard to come by and can help you big time in the long run, especially in defense or gov't.
