Beard or Bust at OCI???!!!

Hey men of TLS,

OCI is coming up and meanwhile, an internal debate is brewing.

I've been growing this wonderful, dark, handsome beard for several months now. Don't worry, it's well trimmed and expertly maintained. In fact, it's not long or bushy at all (due to diligent grooming). Ok it's not THAT awesome, the point is that this is not some crazy rats nest or anything.

Can I sport this hairy feature at OCI? Or should I shave it off, and go clean shaven no matter what. My gut is telling me that the hair has to go, but it seems like a shame, really. Just a goddamn shame.

Let the scholars debate.

I would never go to an OCI interview unshaven.

I went for an interview with a liberal do-gooder firm and I didn't shave for three days beforehand. Wanted to make sure they got the hippie vibe. I got an offer.

If you were a real man you would shave it off and be able to regrow it in a couple days

This question haunts me as well. AA male, 30. Always had faicial hair. Very similar to this, sans swag of course. No good for OCI? Pretty decent past WE, no problems with beard so far.

If you are outside of the south, a nice beard if fine during OCI interviews. If you have good grades and not social awkward. it's not going to be that big of deal.

I sported my beard all throughout OCI and callback season (and am sitting, bearded, at my SA desk right now). Even in NYC and DC. Good school and solid grades, but the beard didn't hurt. At all. Still went 10-for-10 on converting callbacks to offers, including at some stuff places (think Mayer/Covington/W&C).

If you like the beard, rock the beard.

Hahaha! Not even! Im the same complexion and wear my hair and beard at the same length and in the same style. Those are where the similarities end.

I'm in the Northeast market, so it seems like I should be fine. I'm new to the legal industry, so I'm unsure how conservative the profession actually is.
