I'd appreciate any feedback on my rough bid list. Pure lottery, we get 30 bids. I'm at Duke, 3.47 GPA. Really want DC (some decent ties there), but I also threw in a few NYC firms. All are DC offices, unless marked otherwise.

1. King & Spalding
2. K&L Gates
3. Sutherland
4. Fried Frank
5. Venable
6. Morgan Lewis
7. Cadwalader
8. Dickstein
9. Holland & Knight
10. Goodwin Procter
11. Dechert
12. Ropes & Gray
13. Sidley Austin
14. hogan lovells
15. Alston & Bird
16. McKenna Long
17. Vinson & Elkins
18. MoFo
19. Baker Botts
20. Cahill (NY)
21. Proskauer (NY)
22. Cleary
23. Arnold & Porter
24. Morgan & Lewis (NY)
25. Jones Day
26. McDermott
27. Fulbright & Jaworski
28. Latham
29. Baker Hostetler
30. Latham (NY)

I would probably bid more NY (if you don't have a secondary market you have ties to that you would be happy with). A 3.47 probably lands you right around the top 1/3rd, but as you probably know, DC is notoriously a tough shell to crack. I think chances are you'll land something in DC, but if it were me i'd have three target NY firms in your top 15.

Also, what type of work do you want to do? Lit? Transactional? Any particular focus within those?

OP here- don't really have ties to a secondary market, most ties are to DC.
More interested in litigation, and thinking about tax, but not deadset on anything.
Would it make sense to put all my NY bids higher than all the DC ones?

Unless you have some spectacular WE or LR this is a risky list. DC is unpredictable and you aren't anywhere near top 15% and you only have 3 NY firms near the bottom of the list.

could you see telling people you work at Dickstein? I wonder if they get underbid for this?

I'm worried about bidding on Fried Frank because I don't people thinking I work at a hotdog company.
