Washington and Lee, Top 10%, Law Review (but no board position). Chances at USDC or Magistrate? Is it worth a shot?
Thanks!

Definitely worth a shot. It probably goes without saying, but I would recommend targeting judges who are alums of W&L or have hired W&L clerks in the past in particular.

On July 10 there will be a virtual networking event on
http://www.SPAM.com to connect law students with recent graduates and established lawyers. You can speak to them privately by phone or via video conference. Several clerks are available to offer guidance on a pro-bono basis.
It's really a unique opportunity to learn some tips about salaries and opportunities for career progression for lawyers.

This, there's at least one judge I know of that hires fairly heavily from W&L

OP here.
Thanks. If I wanted to concentrate on one level of judges, should it be District or Magistrate?

If you could only concentrate on one, I would probably say district, only because you'd have a bigger universe of judges to apply to.

Yes, absolutely. It just depends if you are willing to live in a less than desirable location.
Good luck.
