This is what career services tells us, but I got an email from a firm I listed 45th asking for an interview.Top 20 on your bid list get your resume even if you don't get an interview with them through the lottery. Least selective firms are the hardest to get interviews with, of course.
Ties to Chicago? Can be a tough nut to crack.vinnievanlowe wrote:I'm in the top 10%, but not interested in working in NYC at all (interested primarily in DC/Chi lit) . Is that suicidal?
Some ties, I lived and worked there for a few yearsAnonymous User wrote:Ties to Chicago? Can be a tough nut to crack.vinnievanlowe wrote:I'm in the top 10%, but not interested in working in NYC at all (interested primarily in DC/Chi lit) . Is that suicidal?
DC is totally doable (I was top 10% as well and got two DC offers. I basically split bids DC and NY, and ended up with 6 or 7 NY offers and just the two DC offers. kinda shows how intense DC can be).
Definitely give it a go then but I would hedge with some DC firms.vinnievanlowe wrote:Some ties, I lived and worked there for a few yearsAnonymous User wrote:Ties to Chicago? Ditto. Currently summering at a NYC firm. Happy to help.xcountryjunkie wrote:Rising GULC 3L here. Happy to answer any and all OCI-related questions either here or through a PM.
I'm also happy to provide assistance.volsi wrote:Ditto. Currently summering at a NYC firm. Happy to help.xcountryjunkie wrote:Rising GULC 3L here. Happy to answer any and all OCI-related questions either here or through a PM.
My understanding is that they can be both before and after classes start, depending on how quickly the particular city tends to move, how quickly the firm moves, and how quickly you book your callbacks.estopped wrote:When are our EIW callbacks normally? EIW is from 13-17, and school doesn't start until Sept. 4, so will they be before or after school starts?
For most of the V100, firms with large classes and firms at 160, you'll know within two to three days, a week at the latest. For the 10% of stragglers, it could take as long as a month. They all say they take their time so they can sit on certain resumes as yield protection and so people they don't select won't blow up their phones begging while the rejection letters are in the mail.sambeber wrote:My understanding is that they can be both before and after classes start, depending on how quickly the particular city tends to move, how quickly the firm moves, and how quickly you book your callbacks.estopped wrote:When are our EIW callbacks normally? It's fairly hard if you are outside the auto-hire pool (top 5-10% + main or URM + grades). Emailing pre-EIW tends to work better than the suites. Remember, unless you've got something usually desirable, they're already seeing at least 21 other people who managed to get interviews with them. It doesn't correlate to the firm's selectivity. Also, it's risky, but interrupting the interviewer of a firm without a suite during their break or at the end of the day can work very well in my experience.sambeber wrote:How easy/hard is it to pick up interviews by emailing pre-EIW or stopping by hospitality suites? Does the level of difficulty have any correlation with the perceived selectivity of the firm?
Agreed. You want your callbacks as early as possible. Go to NYC multiple times, miss class, etc., if it gets you earlier interviews because that is when they have more openings to go around.shadow. wrote:Most (if not all) DC/NYC firms will call within 24-36 hours, if not sooner.
You schedule the CB, but the sooner the better. Most people generally start the Monday after EIW.
Yep- I basically did not attend class for the first 3 weeks of last fall.LawIdiot86 wrote:Agreed. You want your callbacks as early as possible.
