When should I send my mass mailing? (poll!)

When is the best time to apply to firms that won't be coming to OCI?

Is it better to apply early or wait for more information (which firms will be coming to OCI so I don't have any lap, whether or not I'll be on a journal)? Or is it better to just apply a bit later closer to OCI season for the firms?

Any rationale behind the votes?

Regardless of OP's poll...can anyone tell me when is an ideal time to start applying to non-OCI firms? I'm a rising 2L and have basically no experience with this stuff other than talking to my law school friends and our career office (useless). My school is in the south but I really want to work in DC or NY. I am currently in NY for my 1L internship. Also, I'm not going after really prestigious/huge/whatever firms. Mainly reputable mid-sized firms.
