Asking for an offer...

I am a rising 3L at a T20 with mediocre grades. For much of 2L, I worked for a small IP firm. It started as an internship, but eventually turned into a paid gig. My boss asked me to return to work for him in the fall. (I'm working for the in-house counsel of a biotech company this summer.) I'm going to Loyola, OCI, and doing mass mailing, but because of my grades I'm not optimistic. I've really enjoyed working for this firm, and I seem to have a very good relationship with everyone there.

So... how do I approach my boss about coming on full-time after I graduate? Should I? If so, when should I do it? Any advice would be appreciated!

Straight-up ask.

"I've very much enjoyed the work I've done with the firm throughout school, and this is definitely an area I would like to pursue after graduation. I particularly enjoy working here with you and your firm, and I was wondering about the possibility of working here after I graduate?"

I was hesitant to take that approach, because I wasn't sure if that would be uncouth. The way you phrased it alleviates that concern. Much appreciated.
