Alumni networking question.

Interested in litigation, but more interested in employment (ha) and have done/not minded both lit and transactional. If the only alum of your school at a firm of interest does transactional work, do you fake interest in transactional work when contacting them or make clear you're interested in lit but want to know about their firm? (This is for 3L hiring)

Also - targeting undergrad alum if you went to a small school that typically has very proud, active alum - any different than targeting law school alums?

Thanks.

Fake it, til you make it. What difference is it going to make? Sounds like you have no clue about day to day transactional vs. litigation work. Day to day, unless you're picking a jury or deposing a witness (which no one will let you do) there is not any difference. Both kinds of law are paper shuffling.
