Am I screwed

Here's the factors. I am a URM at the University of Texas. I have a 3.2 and Capitol Hill experience. I am on the executive board for two prominent student organizations and if I don't get on the big law review, I feel like I have a good shot at a secondary. If I don't do a journal, I'll do moot court which I already know I can get onto because I was picked to do an honors moot court competition at the end of the year.

I want to do midlaw administrative law. Midlaw is not a consolation prize, I would rather do that than biglaw because I enjoy having a life.

Given all the above factors, am I screwed?

because a 3.2 is an extremely low GPA

OP is a URM. Re-evaluate "low GPA" in this context. I think OP has a decent shot.

This is getting confusing. Couldn't all of the anonymous users be OP?

Midlaw does not necessarily mean "lifestyle firm." Often it doesn't. HTH.

yep midlaw means you work the same hours but get paid less

definitely better than nothing, though

So are you saying I have a chance to pick something up?

Smaller firms also care less about diversity, so being URM in TX might not exactly work so well in your favor...

I don't want to speak for Texans, but in FL, midsize firms (defined as a general practice firm that represents mainly large, corporate clients) are equally as competitive as biglaw.

So what about a smaller firm? Not midlaw, but like 10 attorneys. If I get it right, it's all about who you know.

I had barely above a 2.0 at a DETC school and a 146 lsat and still got in.

Life moves on.

URM is a golden ticket. You could be on AP when you apply and still get in. Don't sweat it.

For those not smart enough to read what the OP wrote: Here it is. (wow)

URM is not exactly a golden ticket coming from a non-T14 law school. It does help but your advice would be more accurate if he was applying to schools not firms (hence me thinking you are in the wrong forum).

Also, what does AP stand for?

Also, your terminology of "getting in" is usually not used in an employment context but rather only when applying to law schools.

This is the employment forum. OP just completed his first year and is asking about jobs.

good point there. Still a golden ticket though. Everyone wants (make that needs) their south park token. They get shut down if they don't in many areas, and just look like ass regardless if they don't. As long as you can sharpen pencils you can get $200K a year for having a tan or an accent. Sure sounds golden ticket to me.
