based on NALP, around top 3% GW

Based on NALP graduation grades, probably around top 3% at GW (but it is GW, so that could be off by any amount - no exacts). If bidding DC, should any firms be off the table as a waste of a bid? (Skadden, Latham, Arnold & Porter, Williams & Connolly, WilmerHale)?
Thanks in advance!

interested in this as well, though with worse grades. The formula posted on TLS indicates i'm in the top 8%

OP here. Congratulations to the above poster! Any GW 3L's or grads want to weigh in on this one? "Colorful Flier" Development Office is not too helpful on this subject.

GW recent grad here:

They won't help you. My section's counselor was the most inept woman I've ever met. During OCI, she gave out circa 1960s hiring advice and was more concerned about the placement of my bullet points on my resume than giving me substantive help.
Top 3% at GW (if you can accurately assume that) is a good place to be, especially if you're bidding for mostly DC/Philly offices. Obviously, you still want to throw in some "safeties," but the firms you've named are certainly not "out of reach."

What formula is this? It no longer matters to me, but I'm curious to see how accurate it is.

Recent grad here. If you don't ooze burgers in your screeners, you will land a great biglaw gig.

OP Here: Ooze burgers... I google'd it and ended up watching "a double jucy lucy ooze cheese"... It is worth three seconds of your youtube life.
Sad to toss W&C out though. You can mass mail any other market if only the DC office of a firm is listed at FRP and they don't have "no multiple interviews" marked, right?

It's a slang term, referring to people who are extremely introverted and/or nearly unable to carry a normal, non-awkward conversation. Basically, your prototypical law student. What I'm saying is that if you're totally awkward and unable to engage in normal conversations with people you don't know, it won't be your grades that prevent you from racking-up offers.
Congrats on the grades, though, that's quite an accomplishment.

I am confused by this thread. Shouldn't someone at the tippy top of their class feel comfortable bidding on whoever shows up at their OCI?

I don't agree that W&C is out - tough spot for anyone to get, sure, but he's one of the folks in the running. Pretty sure they have a number of GWers in their ranks, although maybe these are post-clerkship hires.

Nope. In good shape for Latham/Arnold/Wilmer/Skadden (top 10% is typically good enough to get a callback at all those places assuming you interview well/click with interviewer). I'd definitely bid on W&C and maybe even direct mail a few places that don't do OCI, or at least haven't in the past (Cravath, Quinn, DPW, Simpson etc.).
fwiw, there is at least one summer this year at W&C from GW.

would this advice be applicable to someone in the top 8%?

Still may be worth a shot direct mailing places, but I wouldn't use too many OCI bids on W&C and other firms that have historically been extremely picky in terms of grades at GW (e.g., Covington, GDC, Ropes, maybe a few others). If you looked at this year's graduating 3Ls, pretty much everyone who summered at those firms were summa (top 3%).

I agree with Big Shrimpin, just no Ooze Burgers and your Top 3% grades should be good for most anything - even all the picky firms.

Just to clarify, the part about not using too many bids on places like Covington applies to top 8%. Top 3% should be applying to pretty much everything (even firms that don't do OCI).

top 8% here,
Are places like Sidley/Jones/Latham/Arnold/Wilmer/Skadden/Akin/WSGR out as well (or just as picky as W&C/Covington/Ropes)?
Should I be focusing on firms in the V50-100 range? Reed/Venable/Nixon/Patton/Wiley/H&W/Vinson
I've been looking around tls, nalp class sizes, cutoffs, and whatnot, but haven't really found any concrete info.
