Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff & Stern LLP is the best bankruptcy boutique in the U.S. and they are located in L.A. If you are dead set on NY, White and Case have a good practice.

Thanks. How would one go about getting in contact with these firms? I've heard that mass mailing is often a black hole.

If this is your real name you might want to repost anon b/c a simple google search with your unique name and the school you go to would reveal what you think about Texas (which is likely your best chance at a great job) and that you don't want to work biglaw. Just a thought.

theres only 20 people in the entire firm? highly unlikely they hire recent grads

Well, OP asked for suggestions on boutiques, which, by definition are small. Also, if you took a minute to look at the profiles you would see that they do indeed have a few recent grads.

yea i did. i noticed some "young" people, but no one right out of law school. of course didn't open up every single profile.

Togut recently hired three attorneys, so they probably won't have openings.

There's also Klestadt and Winters. Beyond Togut and Klestadt, there aren't many bankruptcy boutiques -- most of the boutiques doing Biglaw-style work got merged into or acquired by larger firms.

You can look at Chambers to figure out which firms have good bankruptcy practices. I wouldn't trust NALP because firms like to pretend they have a bankruptcy practice when they only have 3-4 attorneys working in the area. For smaller firms, check out Martindale, although it'll be harder to tell how good the firms are.

The bankruptcy law clerk job market is pretty slow at the moment in NYC. The smaller firms really have to be able to justify the cost of bringing on a new associate -- not all of them have enough work for it. You may have better luck in Texas, but I don't know anything about the bankruptcy practices out there. Your best bet -- if your judge can't or won't help you out -- is to network and mass mail.

Get in good with Professor Westbrook if you know you want to do bankruptcy.
