Legal assistant is not synonymous with law clerk.
If you want to be a legal assistant I'm pretty sure monster.com has some postings.
These don't usually require any legal knowledge but may require other skills (typing well, drafting, researching).
If you want to work at a law firm as a law clerk you will have to apply as a law student to work over the summer or during the school year. If you're a 1L it won't happen. You won't have the time and they won't hire 1Ls to be semester term clerks.
If you're a 2L or a 3L you can probably get a part-time job with a small firm to be a semester clerk.
