^^ Just want to underscore your last point. Faculty support was definitely dispositive; everything I got came from a call. Sans a killer resume, which OP and I definitely don't have, what else is going to get you pulled out of the stack? It's vital, then, that you (a) have that support, (b) deploy it wisely, i.e. have your recommenders call a couple of judges from 6, 8, 10, 11, 5, and 3 that you like - not Rakoff. And don't pick who you like on these circuits on the basis of whether he fed a couple clerks to scotus.
