Fordham OCI prospects

Top 15% from Fordham and not bidding very aggressively (Only 1 or 2 firms in V30). Secondary journal (got on it first semester). Some previous work experience, although not much. Just to give me an idea of where I stand, what percentage chance is there of me getting a position from OCI? (I realize this is premature).

You should be fine, from last year it looks like people around top 10-15% had little trouble getting plenty of screeners and a couple decent offers. I wouldn't sweat it, just enjoy the summer and that nice rank.

No offense ( and I wish you the best), but you are far from "fine" as the above poster suggested. You are actually the definition of "in the bubble" at Fordham. It could go either way. Your grades/law school credentials are pretty normal for people getting a decent number of interviews. Getting an offer is going to come from your background (which you admitted you don't have much relevant work history) and the ways the firm thinks you can help them.
Good luck.

You're a 1L at Fordham and have received all your grades already? if not are you assuming top 15%?

3.5 seems to be some sort of magic number for alot of those firms, based on admittedly anecdotal evidence. List looks good you should have a good shot.

This is too conservative IMO. take out 4, 8, 10, 19, 21,31 and replace with more selective firms. Also, this ordering is strange. force a couple of fancier firms to interview you by putting them up top.

Thanks for the feedback. Which ones specifically should I move up in the list?

Also, how would firms look at the summer legal work that I did throughout college. Would they disregard it because it was a small firm and I only worked there during summers, or would they look at it as a sign of motivation, etc. and would that make a big difference in whether or not they chose to interview/hire me?

Those firms seem like good targets for someone not in the top 10. There is also a decent mix of "fancy" firms in there. I think the bidlist looks good.

When i went through EIW i realized that certain firms tend to write you off as a candidate who would never accept an offer from them because you are top 10-20%. another reason is that these firms have such small classes that it is a waste of a bid. looking at a firm like Deb, PW, etc. that historically (and recently) offers good (and not only amazing) fordham students spots is a good idea imo. the list is generally good but i think you can throw in some tougher places.

Could you PM me the list so I see what people are referring to? I have the exact same gpa at the same school, so it'd help. TYIA.

What firms do you think are generally out of reach to someone in my situation?

I've merged these two threads as they duplicate one another.
Also, OP? Congrats - you are the only Fordham 1L I know of who has received all of their grades for the year.
Everyone else is still waiting (including those of us waiting to learn class rankings...)

ETA: I already made a big spreadsheet with vault rankings, offers made, offers accepted (and various other pertinent offer tracker data), SA class sizes for each firm for 2011 and 2012, interview spots available, and some ratios and crap, so I'm not trying to get you to do my work for me. I just want all the advice I can get with firms I have a shot at. I'll even share the spreadsheet if anyone wants.
