there have been a couple of threads about working in biglaw offices in Asia.

say, you are admitted to new york / california but not UK or HK/singapore.

if you work at the london/hk/singapore office of a US firm, will you get the full attorney salary or the 'trainee solicitor' salary?
will you get the full attorney salary only after you also get admitted to the UK/hk/singapore/wherever bar?

I wouldn't mind getting paid at the local salary (which isn't bad, e.g. in UK the salary is not much lower for newly qualified lawyers)

You're there to practice US law. If they need a member of "whatever" bar, they will hire local counsel. The reason that they have an office in X Asian market is because they have clients there. Those clients are paying you for your expertise in, say, NY corporate law and US securities law.
