Yeah, I don't know what the hold up is. I hope they come out this week as it'd be nice for post bar planning and move planning, etc. I'd be very surprised if we don't have dates by next week. I'd be even more surprised if the date is in September since that doesn't seem like enough notice now.
It's firm wide also, not just specific offices.

Has to be Latham.

god if its latham, I'd be especially worried. obviously a firm that doesn't think twice about fucking over first years. but you're right, can't think of any other v15 firm that wouldn't have given start dates by now.

I'm not sure if it "has to be Latham," but I don't see why it'd be any worse if it was Latham than another V15. I seriously doubt Latham would screw over first years again without thinking twice. The hit to their reputation would be ten fold if it happened again this soon.

I wouldn't be worried, but I do have many friends who haven't found out their start dates from Latham. They are the only ones I know who haven't heard, which is why I said: "Has to be Latham."

Assuming latham would not "latham" people again because they took a reputation hit when they did this a few years ago is wishful thinking, IMHO. When your firm name is synonymous with unfair layoffs you know some bad stuff went down.
But maybe I'm just rooting against a place that completely screwed over some friends of mine a few years back.

Just going to throw it out there as a guess this is Weil? If you look at their NALP form they have 106 expected entry level attorneys starting in 2012 compared to 61 2L summer associates from summer of 2011 showing that a lot of the people starting in 2012 must have been deferred from prior classes. In that kind of situation it makes sense they want to wait as long as possible to tell you the date. If they are slow they can push you off until January to save some money and if things pick up they can bring you in in the fall. I would be surprised if they deferred any more than a few months.

Still crickets from my firm...
Has the other V15 mentioned got their dates yet?

Gotta be Latham. Although I had heard that folks were supposedly going to hear firm-wide in June and if that doesn't happen in the next week or so, they are really pushing it....
I hope Latham has an explanation for why it took so long to release start dates, especially given the fact that virtually every other law firm has provided start dates. Just sayin...

It's getting rather annoying. I still feel happy just to have a job lined up, but it'd be nice to be able to start planning for the move/vacations/time with family/etc.

do you think the fact that they closed NJ office has anything to do with the delay?

They closed their NJ office? Was it big? I'm assuming it is small otherwise that would be on ATL, etc.
I wouldn't worry, don't a lot of firms not have start dates?

"Latham & Watkins is finally winding down its Newark office, which suffered a mass exodus of attorneys six years ago and never fully recovered.
The Newark branch, which peaked at more than 40 lawyers in the mid-2000s, as of Thursday was down to four partners and four associates. Most will be relocated to New York, along with the remaining support staff.
A spokesman, Geoff Burt, says the firm will keep a small office in Newark for the convenience of clients and two partners will split their time between here and New York."

when did latham tell you guys you would hear start dates by? sounds like they are being very cautious...I'd look out for possible deferrals or optional deferral programs (which I read on TLS ropes is doing). fuck ITE man.
I'd also contact your law school's career services offices...they'll have advice and may even contact the firm for you.

Word is that San Fran gave dates yesterday. I'm not sure what the hold up is for the other offices.
