I'd also contact your law school's career services offices...they'll have advice and may even contact the firm for you.
Word is that San Fran gave dates yesterday. I'm not sure what the hold up is for the other offices.

when was the start date for SF?
Choice of various dates from later Oct. to late Nov.

If you don't have any super strong reason to go to Latham and you want to start sometime in 2012, might not be stupid to just mass mail a few in case.

Do you have inside info or are you just going off of their reputation from their actions a few years ago?

Morgan is probably guessing if you read his/her earlier comments. Good luck everyone still waiting to hear!

based on pure speculation, I'd bet that they will be offering optional deferrals. they probably way over-hired when late 2010/early 2011 was looking up (as they always do) and are now worried that the economy might tank again with the euro mess and our own debt crisis/tax/sequestration crisis coming up. no other reason I can think of for why they would delay so long, especially when basically every other firm has given start dates and they never gave such late start dates in the past.

I agree with this guess since friends at every other firm learned their start dates two months ago. Latham may be waiting to come up with a good plan for how to do deferrals in a fair way that won't make them look too bad relative to their peer firms. Better to do something like that than to have a Dewey situation and let costs get out of control at least. It would be funny though if they just announced regular start dates and gave no explanation for the long delay.

latham is probably determining start dates based on office need....SF/the bay area is booming right now, so maybe they need all hands on deck while the rest of firm might not

Well, it's July in one week. Somehow I think Latham will send out start dates in the next couple of weeks. I know it can be difficult for a firm to have too many associates onboard all at once. However, I'm curious to know how they are going to deal if everyone signs up for the first start date available...

My guess is that if SF found out, then the rest of the offices should follow shortly...Can anyone else confirm that SF did in fact find out and what dates they were offered?

I guess we should be able to call HR and ask these questions directly but it seem like it's safer to play the waiting game and not upset the firm you are going to work for...kind of unsettling not to know yet however.

DC. Same dates as SF. Got a personalized (to office) email from our summer program coordinator, so its not a coordinated firm-wide release.

I'm fairly sure that all of the offices will have the same dates. First-year academy is at the very end of November so I'm sure they want everyone on board before then.

I'm not sure why other offices have been so slow to email.

Ropes told people they would get their start dates in spring. Spring is gone. Anyone know what is going on over there?

So DC and SF know their dates and no one else right...I'm wondering why NYC, LA, Chicago, and others haven;t been emailed yet. But its true that first year academy is supposed to be late Nov/early Dec. I guess it's good that folks are finding out and here's to hoping the rest of the offices are emailed soon!

Also is 1st year academy in SF this year?
