Top Law Schools

Hi there,
I am a 1L. My father's friend has been elected to the 3- member board of a venture capital firm which, even though not a law firm obviously, practices in areas in which I have strong interest. (e.g. health care, finance)

I understand that a board director probably does not participate in the running of the firm - and the managing officers do the hiring. If I strike out at OCI or want an internship with the vc firm, would it be wise to use such a connection? will he even have the authority to do anything for me?

advice needed.

I know several people who sit on the board of a company.
Each of them told me the same thing:

They are not involved in the hiring decision.
However, if they pass along a resume, you are pretty much guaranteed that HR will take a good look at your resume and if your skillset matches a vacancy you have an advantage compared to an outside candidate with identical qualifications

Edit: note that I'm a 0L and am speaking from general knowledge, not specific to legal employment

I see all upside and zero downside. If it leads to a job, awesome, and if not, then you're no worse off. Shoot, do this in addition to other traditional job searching. Maybe it becomes a bargining chip. You'll never interview better than you will just after you received a solid job offer that you have in your back pocket. Then you can be confident and yourself. It matters.
