If I just can't find work, and I need money to (eat, not sleep in gutter, etc) does it make sense to stay in school longer until I line something up?

It would defer student loans and keep finaid coming in to keep the bills paid.

Worth it?

If you're talking about getting an LLM in tax from NYU, maybe.
If you're talking about getting a masters in history, I'd say to work at starbucks and apply for govt benefits.

No it's not.

1) Get a job, anything.

2) Go move in family.

The only way it would be worth it is if you were doing joke online courses at a community college for $300 a year to keep loans in deferment. Taking out new loans or paying top-dollar for graduate work are subpar choices.

online classes don't pay living costs. That would defeat the point if the reason is for rent and food.

I have a felony and a 2.0 at a 4th Tier law school and my BA was from DETC.

BK told me no. Went to school to live off loans to begin with. Kinda screwed.

Not to get a job, to avoid debt collectors.

I have 2 felonies, and I was born an illegal Mexican immigrant and I still got an education and a job.

Generally, when someone who is mentally and physically capable tells me they are unable to find a job what I hear is "can't find a job (that I want)"

Go clean toilets for minimum wage. It'll give you a newfound respect for every other job you will ever have thereafter.

Whatever you do- do not lose touch on your student loan obligations . You can use ibr. But taking on more debt is a bad idea. I guess if you go to a local community college- but if so there might be a cap on how much debt you can have in total. But don't go just to defer loans.

Not the OP, but I was in a similar situation after college. Could not find any work whatsoever. I applied to work in fast food, retail, as a hotel maid, and no one would take me. After 5 months of no job offers at all (only had 2 interviews at Trader Joe's and Ikea, who apparently didn't want me), I decided to go to law school.

It's harder than you'd think to find a job cleaning toilets. They don't want you if they know you have a degree, but if you don't mention the degree and they inquire about your work history it starts to look pretty sketchy if you're in your mid twenties and your only work experiences have been summer employment.

No offense, but I think you're out of touch with how bad it's been. I got turned away from a hot dog vending position coming out of undergrad. Eventually I got some clerical gigs through networking, but that was after getting turned away from even more jobs that required five years experience in the custodial arts.

Also, the OP you're responding to is a law grad, not an English major fresh out of undergrad. The OP's concern here should probably be developing some kind of career, not simply jumping from gig to gig.

really? I figured OP's concern should be putting food on the table and paying rent

no one is born an illegal immigrant. You either were born in another country and then came here or were born here and thus not illegal.

Probably not even worth it for someone with substantial student loan debt to spend their time making $7/hour. What's the point?
