is it true that some firms will give you an interview as long as you request one?
e.g.
http://www.zelle.com/careers-program.html
scroll to the middle of the page.
'if you are 1L or 2L ... requesting an interview"
the offices are pretty small. how could they handle?

What? No. That just means you can apply. When you send resume/transcript to any firm you are effectively "requesting an inverview" but that doesn't mean the firm will actually grant the request! You still need to be competitive to get in the door.

i'm interested in the minnesota office. they have a number of so-called TTT'ers but it seems they are top graduates.

If you've got the grades, then apply.

I can tell you from experience that Zelle Hoffman does not give you an interview just for requesting one. In fact they are one of the few firms that never sent me any sort of confirmation that they even got my application (I've actually applied to them twice and got the same silent treatment both times).

silent treatment is the norm these days. I wouldn't blame them. they got so many every day.
are there firms out there that tend to give interviews when requested? (e.g. by sending personalized emails not by sending form applications)

I've only heard nice things about zelle (collegial environment) but I guess you need to get your foot in the door to be able to appreciate that. silent treatment is so typical
