I accepted an offer at a small firm and noticed that there's a misspelling on their website. It's not a glaring typo, but I definitely noticed it. I won't be starting until the fall, so it's not like I actually work there yet and I'm not listed on the site, but I feel like I should let them know. I was thinking of telling the partner who hired me since he has been my main point of contact with them so far.

Any suggestions as to how to go about this or if it would even be appropriate for me to bring this up? Thanks.

Wait a while and mention it informally. But I do not think you really gain (or lose anything) by mentioning it.

Hopefully you're not going to attempt to correct their spelling of "judgment".

OP here. One of their practice groups (e.g., litigation) is misspelled under the "Practice Areas" tab on the site, so you have to actually scroll over the tab to see it. Basically, two of the letters in the group name are transposed, and I see how the typo could have been made because it's not really obvious if you're just skimming over the word.

I'm thinking that the best choice might be mentioning it informally when I have other stuff to discuss with them closer to my start date, along the lines of what the second poster suggested.

I can see no beneficial outcome in mentioning this. Even if they appreciate it, you're still the obnoxious grammar-Nazi law student who pointed out a typo on the website.

You need to tell them this, as soon as possible. Preferable manner would be an email, to all partners, explaining you don't feel comfortable working at their firm if they're willing to let such things get out to the public.

(Alternatively, you should not mention this, to anyone, ever. Assume they know what they're doing, and will not appreciate an associate pointing out such a small error.)

OP again. Thanks for the feedback everyone. It sounds like there is a pretty strong consensus for not mentioning it, and I think that's probably a good idea. I obviously don't want to be seen as nitpicky or annoying before I even start working there, and I see how bringing this up could come off the wrong way.

To the above poster, I'm a graduating 3L who was job hunting for a long time, so I didn't really have the luxury of turning down a firm I otherwise really liked over a typo.

So you think he should assume the firm knew what they were doing when they put a typo on their website? The best advice is to wait until an opportunity comes up to mention this informally, like the first person to respond said. No need to make it a big deal at all but I'm sure they would appreciate having this pointed out.

Congrats on the job. I wouldn't mention it to anyone. No one is going to thank you for pointing this out. After you are working there for a while and you know who is in charge of the website, you could find a way to bring it up, but I wouldn't bother.

Send this to the webmaster, who usually is a non-attorney with his/her own email.

I don't understand what's so wrong to help police the image of your firm in front of potential clients. Websites are made for people to look at (both customers and potential employees).

You could also wait until you start and casually bring it up to IT or whoever runs the website. They'll likely be glad that some new guy caught the error rather than their boss.
