Isn't Order of the Coif top 10%? That would normally imply law review.
At my school, Latin honors are fixed GPA's...it's possible you could be top 10% and not hit the necessary GPA necessary for Summa.

For firm jobs, you'd rather be top 10% than say top 30% + LR.

It's intensely grade oriented, but I feel like no journal is an automatic killer and grades are school dependent.

The clerkship debate above can be resolved by the same answer as is always expected: Both/It depends.
Some judges are notorious for having a de facto law review requirement no matter what your grades. This obviously is not to say that grades don't matter, but some judges simply want law review and see it as an easy cut off for hoards of applicants. Other judges just want the highest grades they can get. Most fall somewhere in between and weigh a variety of factors. I say this not as an expert on clerkships like GTL Rev, but simply as someone who's reviewed the hiring records of judges in various federal courts of appeals and competitive districts. Take it as you will.
