switching to part time

1l here at a t20. I did pretty badly first semester (2.7~) and I know realistically, I'm not going to get anythign from OCI. I think the way I wrote my exams was the problem and I'm working harder/smarter this semester and plan on taking more curve-friendly courses next year. I was thinking about switching to part time next year and hopefully getting my grades up to a point where I at least have a chance at interviews at next next year's OCI. Has anybody done this or know of anyone who has? i know it's been recommended by some before but I haven't really seen anyone talk about whether it's been successful. also, it seems the people who have talked about doing this were people who did get interviews at OCI and just struck out.
