No, hell no, or "if it looks appropriate outside of the button count it's OK"?

If it's a firm where everyone wears suits all of the time, I'd hesitate to wear it because it's going to look relatively casual. If the firm is more of a business-casual, then I'd say yes.

Everyone knows it only counts as a suit if you HAVE two button and USE one.

But seriously, wear your one button suit.

Never. You probably won't get no offered for it, but it will be noticed. It's a waste of money, though. Focus on two button suits. One is enough for the summer if your office is business casual.

Everyone wears suits but they take off their jackets most of the time.

If it's a casual firm, then sure. Just not to court, if that's applicable to your job. If it's a more traditional firm, then don't.

It's too fashion-forward. As far as dress code is concerned, law firms are the most conservative workplaces out there.

This, but I'll add that they pretty much universally look ridiculous. Go ask the Mens Fashion/ Style thread and see what they say.

I have no idea if this is a credible source, but I ran a Google. It says "do not think about wearing a one-button suit to work."

I don't think you should wear a one button suit ever.

My rule: Always 3 button suits. For buttons, from top down follow the rule, "Sometimes, always, never."

The correct answer is "Why in God's name do you own a one button suit?"

I think a three-button is a nice way to mix it up, but always 3-button? Pretty silly rule. The two is a staple of every man's suit wardrobe.

OP, just suck it and pay your tailor to replace the buttons that fell off. Geez, the stinginess is astounding...

Also, don't forget your time machine back to 1994.

I wasn't aware that members of Boyz 2 Men were gracing the TLS forums. Awesome.

Talk about the blind leading the blind.

On a side note: A 3 button jacket can be great, if its a roll-over. You never button up the top button on these, as the 3rd (top button) is basically vestigial and the button hole is in the lapel. See J. Press for some good examples of this style.
OP: Take your 1 button back to Ozwald Boateng and ask him to stick another button on there. But seriously, just go pick up a 346 from Brooks in Charcoal or Navy. As the guys above me have said: law is conservative.

Seriously, I don't know what a one button suit looks like, so this was what I was thinking.
