Fixed. And I am doing it here b/c I don't want people who know me seeing me ask this question.BeenDidThat wrote:This has nothing to do with legal employment. And not putting UVA in the title makes you an asshole.
Calling you an asshole was a bit much. Apologies.Anonymous User wrote:Fixed. And I am doing it here b/c I don't want people who know me seeing me ask this question.BeenDidThat wrote:This has nothing to do with legal employment. And not putting UVA in the title makes you an asshole.
I ended up with a 3.62 or 3.63 and was Order of the Coif. I think grades during 2L & 3L year tend to converge towards a 3.3 because seminars are still on a curve. A 3.62/3.63 would only be about top 12-15% after 1L year.vamedic03 wrote:Rumor is ~3.67-3.68.
They tell you in the fall when they announce the other GPA awards. I believe they send a letter, but somebody correct me if I'm wrongAnonymous User wrote:How/when is one notified that they receive Order of the Coif at UVA?
I received an email on September 28, 2012. I suspect that if you are trying to clerk, career services would tell you now whether you're top 10%.Anonymous User wrote:How/when is one notified that they receive Order of the Coif at UVA?
It'll be mostly the same for 2013, though for future years you can expect it to be a bit higher, yes.sundance95 wrote:Doesn't the new grading scheme render all old data points fairly useless?
Does this mean that Coif is based entirely on 1L and 2L grades? It isn't determined before graduation taking into account your 3L grades?Anonymous User wrote:I received an email on September 28, 2012. No, that was from somebody who graduated in 2012. They don't announce it until the fallAnonymous User wrote:Does this mean that Coif is based entirely on 1L and 2L grades? Ohhh okay, thank god! I was just about to lose the tiny tiny bit of motivation I had left to care about my 3L grades.5ky wrote:No, that was from somebody who graduated in 2012. It's a range because what is top 10% changes from year to year.Anonymous User wrote:I'm resurrecting this old thread. Does anyone have any more current info? I'm also confused by the fact that estimates above range from 3.62-3.68. That's a pretty big difference.
Inspired by a shitty paper i'm writing.

Thanks. Can you share anything re last year's cutoff?Anonymous User wrote:early Sept last yearAnonymous User wrote:Necroing this to see if anyone has heard about Coif. Would also welcome c/o 2013 anecdotes about Coif announcement timing.
i had a 3.70 and got it, which is all i really know. the slightly changed grading scale should have some of an impact, perhaps.Anonymous User wrote:Thanks. Yes, this is right. I have no idea why it takes 4 months to come up with Coif, but it does.pertristis wrote:They do not announce it at graduation. Indeed, they state that end-of-year grade awards will be given out in the fall.
