Dropped from top 25% to bottom 50%.
Bad grades in 2L fall semester. It was just a bad time with me after OCI was a complete fail (I'm in a T-20). I'm determined to bring my grades up.
But in terms of finding employment at a small or medium sized firm, how much did I screw myself here ? I got one C range grade, everything else is B+. =(

sorry to hear
does your cumulative gpa still put you above the median? luckily, smaller firms are more about networking and less about grades.

My impression is that OP's overall class rank fell from top 25% to below median after the first semester of 2L. Is this correct ?

OP here: Yeah, exactly. Basically one C+ and one B dropped it down. I'm in the 3.3 range now. I'm just below median.
I just really want a job. We have networking events for small and medium firms coming up and I'm so worried this gpa is just going to make it even harder =(.

You're still in the running.
It's rather speculative, but roll with me: assume 25% of the class got Biglaw, and most of them were well above median, and also assume that 25% of the class wants public interest or gov't.. If a quarter of the PI/Gov't folks are in the top half, then 31% of the class, who also has above-median grades, is not competing with you. So, only about 19% of the class has grades better than you and wants to compete for those jobs. In a class of 200, that's only 38 people.
Don't count yourself out.

Re: Dropped from top 25% to bottom 50%.
I;m at a lower T14 and am somewhere around median with a 3.3(1L). I think I can do better this semester. Am I ruled out for any type of job? I did get an unpaid internship within my state for 1L summer but am finding out that even these unpaid internships are competitive!!BeenDidThat wrote:You're still in the running.

Ehhh... quite speculative. Unlikely 25% of the class got biglaw. Hell, 25% of the class barely even has a job right now at some T20s.BeenDidThat wrote:You're still in the running.

I'd say it's quite logical to assume past placement statistics will hold true for the T14 going forward...romothesavior wrote:Ehhh... quite speculative. Unlikely 25% of the class got biglaw. Did you read? We're not talking about a T14:slsplease wrote:I'd say it's quite logical to assume past placement statistics will hold true for the T14 going forward...romothesavior wrote:Ehhh... quite speculative. I know people with below 3.0s who have firm jobs. But this is from a T14, so Idk. how helpful it is to you.

I'm really jealous that a 3.3 is below median at your school.Anonymous User wrote:OP here: Yeah, exactly. Basically one C+ and one B dropped it down. I'm in the 3.3 range now. I'm just below median.
