Does anyone know where I can get info. re: which judges tend to hire clerks with post-LS work experience?

Thanks for any and all guidance.

CSO?
Definitely. But I could not get an appointment with the clerking specialist there until Feb. 7th and I wanted to have done some of my own research beforehand.

Here's the problem with these threads. People are hesitant to share for two reasons: (1) They don't want to draw attention to judges they are considering applying for and (2) they don't want to give people any advantage by giving additional information.

That being said, I'll give you what I can and hope that karma rewards both of us in the end.

For the Ninth Circuit, Judge Callahan and Judge Milan Smith both prefer to hire students with either significant firm experience or who have a District Court clerkship under their belt. Judges Kozinski, Reinhardt, and O'Scannlain all hire like feeder judges (because they kind of are) so they are looking for top grades from HYS, or top of your class from a T10. Judge Randy Smith strongly prefers (almost limits himself) to individuals planning on working in Idaho after the completion of the clerkship and usually ignores the flood of mailing applications, relying primarily on recommendations.
