Doubts while in law school

Hey everyone,

currently a 1L at American. I just got my first semester grades back and I just made the top 50%. I'm getting a little nervous about employment prospects and I'm starting to wonder if all the debt I'm incurring is really worth it. I just got a job offer, doing something totally unrelated, but the base is 65K plus quarterly bonuses. It's not really what I would like to do but I have a business degree and I feel like job prospects can be pretty flexible. Pausing law school for a year and doing that (if thats even possible) sounds a lot better than graduating with 170K of debt and more than likely getting a public sector job that pays 53K (or no job at all) I could just be freaking out for no reason, but the thought of all that debt and some of these blogs stating that if you are an average student at American you're basically shit out of luck is starting to scare me. Basically I'm looking for advice as to whether it would be smart to drop out now (considering I am having doubts) or to just push through the next few years and see what happens.

I'd take a 65k job vs. being median at American.

Plus bonuses? Shit, that's like above the median starting attorney salary right there.

Drop out asap.

Not to mention the feelings of doubt will only get stronger as you go.

So this job is in sales for surgical products, I'm pretty outgoing but still no long term job growth/security. However, that being said I would be back in an area where I have better connections and where I would have an easier time transitioning to another job. I don't know if that makes it any better or worse.

Take the job. Take a semester or two of leave. You can always come back after a leave of absence no questions asked at these schools. Maybe you'll choose to come back full time or maybe you'll choose to come back as a night student or maybe you'll choose never to come back at all.

Take the job, take the semester off. Decide if you want to come back as a part-timer or just go to biz school.

The very fact that you sought out a job, assuming it didn't fall in your lap, should tell you something about how you're feeling.

Medical sales is a growth industry. The long term growth potential is that you get good at it, and make a shit ton in commission.

A good friend has his own distributorship in the Poconos, makes good money, vacation everyday. I'd get into that business if I was a salesperson type.

Have you looked into a leave of absence? I'd ask for a leave and take the job. If they won't give a leave I'd just drop out and take the job.

170k is a lot of debt coming out of American, particularly with medianish grades.

Agree. Law school will always be there. Take the time, earn some money, evaluate. Good luck - and kudos for acknowledging your doubts and addressing them.

Please take the job. You need to get out of school if you are at median. It is doubtful that you will get the results you seek if you pass up this opportunity. As others have said, you can always go to law school, it isn't going anywhere.
