T14 2L Nothing for Summer Yet
2L at lower T14 here, struck out at OCI, no luck with mass-mailing/networking so far, at least with summer associate positions, and nothing panning out for government either and have no desire to go into public interest. At this point, I don't even know what to do, took some time off from apps the past few weeks, and now don't really know where to start or even what to do, especially with summer rapidly advancing and nothing lined up. Below median, probably going to be even worse after last semester's frantic push to get a job..

What are your stats? And what markets are you applying to? Do you have any ties? Do you know how others in your class are doing regarding summer employment? Need this info before can give sound advice.

Too embarrassed to give exact stats, but basically, probably bottom 20%, was about median second semester, but couldn't save an awful first semester. Can't out markets without probably outing myself, but have ties to two secondary markets and one major market. Go to a T10-14 school, class seems to be doing pretty well although it might just be self-selection based on who I'm friends with, can't really speak for the class as a whole but seems like >50% for biglaw

What are you looking to hear, bro? You have to stay on your grind. That is your only option. You must keep mailing. You must keep trying. You must find more firms to apply to, add new markets, just keep going. There is no magic bullet, only tireless grinding.

+1 Also below median, took 300 apps to get a 1L gig, 1,800 for a 2L and 3,500 for my 3L spot. It really is about grinding them out and find new places to apply.Anonymous User wrote:What are you looking to hear, bro? You have to stay on your grind. That is your only option. +1 2L here. Also way below median at a T20 school. Probably bottom 20% now. Had a terrible first semester (2.1), but so far have managed to bring it up to a 2.9 as a 2L. Still have three semesters left to bring it up even more! I managed to get a 1L gig after my first year and now have a 2L gig at a different, mid-sized firm. Just don't give up. With such a low GPA my first semester, I was definitely in panic mode. But I will/would not give up without putting up a battle. My best advice is sell other attorneys/firms on your other credentials that would make you a good fit. Don't go into an coffee meetings/interviews with a defeated face. Just go in there and sell your other amazing qualities that got you into a T14 school.LawIdiot86 wrote:+1 Also below median, took 300 apps to get a 1L gig, 1,800 for a 2L and 3,500 for my 3L spot.
