for those of you applied to Texas big law, did you mass mail with physical letters or just email the recruiters? is it too late to get in the game?

mass mailed w/ physical letters. and yeah, i'd say its a little late as Texas firms fill up fast (i think even late December was too late)

Email is fine, according to my school's CS office. It's too late for some firms, but other Texas firms have requested that 1L applicants wait until their grades are in to apply, which for many wasn't until just recently.

Just got my first responses since applying on Jan. 6.

Fulbright - rejected (see us at oci, blah blah)
V&E - interview

1L Top 1-2% in-state school (not UT).

What is everyone's input on V&E vs. Fulbright in Houston?
Why would you guys prefer one firm over the other?
Thanks!!

T-14, from TX (UT undergrad) w/substantial work experience, not URM

I interviewed over break and received offers from all of the Big 3 before grades came out

All Big 3 are first half (of the summer) programs
Fulbright - 8 weeks (6 if you're splitting with another firm) and a 2L return requirement
BB - 6-8 weeks and a 2L return requirement
V&E - At least 6 weeks but NO 2L return requirement

Tough decision, but I decided on V&E and will be splitting the summer between them and the TX office of a non-TX firm

Accepted Hayboo Fast Track offer this week. Any movement out there or is 1L biglaw hiring winding down?

What is the general consensus on Hayboo? About equal to Locke Lord? Locke's PPP seems a bit higher, does that suggest that partners make more? Hayboo seems like a really chill (relatively) place to work; would it be crazy to work at Hayboo over one of the Big 3? Are partner prospects better at hay boo than at big 3 firms?

edit: I was referring to Hayboo Dallas and Locke Houston

Care to elaborate? What makes them "in better shape?"

one thing to look at: nalpdirectory stats. LL had 1 entry level associate in 2009 and only 7 in 2011; HB consistently has had large entering classes.

LL laid off over 100 people in 09. HB denied having any layoffs (prob had a few)

also, just from interviewing with both HB-D and LL-H, I have to say that HB-D is just an awesome group of people and very energetic/happy/outgoing

Thanks for the stats! Yea I'd have to agree with you about Hayboo. I have friends at big 3 firms and just assumed I'd want to end up working at one of em, but the Hayboo people i've interacted/interviewed with have been amazing.

I second the idea that the people at HB seem really great to work with. Interviewed for the Fast Track program and had a great experience.

Anyone know how long Hayboo waits to make offers after conducting fast track interviews? They did a first round in January and a second round at UT on friday.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
