I am currently a clerk at a federal court of appeals and I'm curious when clerks generally apply to law firms for associate positions. Also, I am curious which firms traditionally hire fed clerks. If it matters, I graduated top 5% of my class from a law school ranked somewhere between 30-40. I am interested in New York, D.C., and Chicago.

I'm a current clerk and have started interviewing with firms. Sent out resume in mid November and just started hearing at the beginning of December. I'm just blanketing the Vault top 20 or so and seeing what happens. Working pretty well so far with interviews.
