So what's so bad about doc review?

Read somewhere that in NYC they pay $35/hr for doc review work. Is it hard to get a job like that? (T 20, top 20%, struck out OCI)

i think the consensus is that while hourly pay may not be bad (and more than several lawyers' salary), they are contract positions that last only a few months. so you're constantly looking for work. also absolutely no benefits. and it's pretty much the kiss of death in terms of ever finding a real (salaried) legal job.

Yeah, in terms of what you're talking about, it's not the task that's bad, it's the position. But as a general matter, there's nothing awful with doc review. It's easy hours, though not "good" hours.

There were some posts here by a guy named areyouinsane. He seemed to have inside knowledge of the doc review scene. The problems seem to be that you aren't treated like a professional, you have no control over your hours or environment and now most of the work is outsourced to overseas so there is no sustainable way to make a living doing it. He had some colorful stories.

So what if someone gets a normal law job, it pays well but not so well, and does doc review on the weekends for extra income? Possible?
