Is there a record of the first 1L to land a biglaw job? How soon after Dec 1st does it happen?

It happens before December 1st. People ignore the rules and people who get into biglaw as a 1L generally have a connection to the firm that is so strong they are guaranteed the job before they submit the resume. My roommate 1L year got a federal district internship offer the first week of November because his parents knew the judge.Anonymous User wrote:Is there a record of the first 1L to land a biglaw job? Pretty sure she is talking about his/her boyfriend.SuperCool23 wrote:Was your son 1L gig @sid included in his financial aid package, if so how?
Pretty sure you are a dumbass. Boy = friend. Son can mean the same thing.thelawyler wrote:Pretty sure she is talking about his/her boyfriend.SuperCool23 wrote:Was your son 1L gig @sid included in his financial aid package, if so how?
So wait, somehow USC got Sidley Austin to guarantee a job offer to a prospective student (presumably without any interview and most definitely without any law school grades)?Anonymous User wrote:USC offered him a guaranteed 1L Summer Associate position at Sidley Austin
Well USC does have the Rothman Scholarship which is a full ride plus guaranteed 1L SA at Skadden. I haven't heard of any other such combinations though.zomginternets wrote:So wait, somehow USC got Sidley Austin to guarantee a job offer to a prospective student (presumably without any interview and most definitely without any law school grades)?Anonymous User wrote:USC offered him a guaranteed 1L Summer Associate position at Sidley Austin
No one else finds this suspect?
The Rothman includes a lot of rounds of elimination--so perhaps Skadden gets a part in interviewing the finalists and a part in determining who gets it?zomginternets wrote:I'm very surprised. What does Sidley/Skadden get out of this? Is it just the presumption that such an offer would only go to a particularly impressive candidate, thus allowing them to get first bite at the promising lawyers of tomorrow?
It is surprising, but USC actually has a number of these fellowships (I always just assumed other schools did too?). I think your guess is pretty much spot on. I know personally that the Rothman scholar is usually someone who is turning down YHS for USC. Amazingly, people who get these fellowships as a 1L are usually in the top 10% anyway. Maybe it's just the expectations put on them, or maybe there really is some correlation between LSAT/GPA and law school GPA?zomginternets wrote:I'm very surprised. Getting offers before starting law school? That late?Anonymous User wrote:my boy got in to Michigan, but USC offered him a 3/4 scholly + a guaranteed 1L Summer Associate position at Sidley Austin (LA office)! So he had his 1L SA set up before starting law school. In case you are wondering, he got an offer from Sidley for his 2L, but left that and went to Gibson Dunn (LA) for his 2L SA. BOSS.
