I propose a thread to list corporations and other in-house places we have heard of that hire summer interns for paid legal work. I'll start off:
HP
Gannett
Exxon-Mobile
Liberty Mutual
Howard Hughes Medical Institute
Guardian Life Insurance

So how does one go about nabbing a paid summer gig [1L or 2L] with one of these places?
Any tips/insight?

Google did last summer. The resume drops are black holes though. The legal department works almost entirely off of referrals from current employees. If you have any college friends, etc. who work in any department at Google (doesn't have to be legal), ask them to refer you.

Cargill (via OCI in MN schools)
Digital River
The Toro Company
Travelers
Regis Corporation
Thomson West (Westlaw)
Medtronic (patent only)
General Mills (patent only)

Ford came to my school after OCI was done. They don't necessarily offer a full time position out of the summer program, so I don't think it would be feasible for them to hire on the same timeline as firms, since most people with a firm offer would rather take that.
