Getting a job through a lecturer?

I have a decent 2L SA lined up, but I would prefer to be in a different major market after graduation. Is it appropriate to use practicing partners that teach at my school to try and network my way into their firm for after graduation? I should be qualified based on my credentials, but I know 3L OCI is brutal, so I thought this might be a better path to take. Anyone have any experience with this sort of an approach?
