Has anyone had this type of interview?

I am a 3L and have a final interview for a government employer where they whittled down the applicants to around 15. I was told that 7 to 11 of these people are going to get hired. I've never gone to an interview where you have a 50% chance or better of landing a job. For some reason, I feel like I am more nervous knowing the breakdown that if I didn't know.

This is a somewhat strange question. I have gone on CBs with firms that have very high offer rates. Do not worry about it. Just do what you have been doing to get this far.

Do you feel like it is more of a "let's see who messes up" kind of thing?

In situations like this, I still don't think it's ever a matter of "let's see who messes up." I think one must do well because odds are none of the interviewees will actually mess up. It will be more of a matter of the employer evaluating who were the best 7 out of the 15 we interviewed.

If it makes you feel better, 7 is less than 50% of 15.

I adjusted the numbers for outing purposes and forgot to increase the lower amount of the estimate accordingly. My bad.

I know several people who went into their firm callbacks with the attitude that "they would get an offer as long as they didn't mess up." Pretty much all of them didn't get an offer (which isn't surprising because callbacks are hardly a sure thing to land an offer), but they were all extremely shocked they didn't get it. An interview is never really yours to lose.

I know who you are. Don't worry, it'll be OK.

Thanks for the tip.
