I read a lot on here about it being relatively easy to lateral from NYC (particularly corporate) to in house or to another firm in a secondary market as a midlevel. Is it as easy/common to lateral from NYC to LA, provided you have ties to CA?

LA legal market isn't that great right now, probably pretty tough.

Can you really call LA a "secondary" market? I don't think people in LA will be overly impressed that you worked in NY. If it were a smaller city/legal market I can see it being easy, but I would think you should just go to LA to start with if you wanted to end up there. After all, where are the clients for the NY offices likely to be located? JMO though.
