Considering an offer.
Can anyone share their experiences working as a SA or as an associate ?
Any other info about the firm/Boston office would be appreciated.

I know this isn't what you are looking for, but I did a CB there and hated it. Just the general feeling I got from the associates (except for 1 strikingly normal one). The partners also seemed weird as sh*t, even by legal standards.

I withdrew the day I got another offer. I will say thought that the office, especially the views, are outstanding and the quality of the work seemed high as well.

What are you choosing between? Goodwin Boston is solidy in the top 3 of the best firms in the area. It does have a reputation for being sweaty-shoppish and laid off a ton of attorneys during the recession.

As for personality, the attorneys tend to be more on the weird/quwirky side for better or worse.

OP can you explain what was weird about the partners and associates ? I didn't get that vibe at all..

Also, Blindmelon, can you share more about your experiences or what you have heard about the firm being sweat-shop-y and lawyers being weird ?

I didn't summer there but I know a lot about Boston firms. There were a lot of layoffs and so a lot of people got overbooked filling in for the people who left. Honestly though, the people I know that work there are really cool/nice, but are definitely quirky/nerdy. I would get in contact with people at your school that summered there and talk to them as everything I know about them I heard through other people or just from the rep. of the firm in the community.

Was seriously considering it and spoke to a young associate there who I had some connection to. They sounded highly unenthused about the workload and the job; gave off a serious "it pays the bills" vibe. Was considering passing up some higher-ranked firms elsewhere to go to GP in Boston but decided not to because the main benefit to me was going to be the lifestyle, and I wasn't convinced it would be that much better than working in NYC/DC. FWIW. I'm sure others would give more positive reviews.

I, too, came away feeling that a couple of the partners I met with were weird in their own unique ways, but they all treated me very nicely and gave quite candid responses to my questions.

Is the sweat shop feel limited to one particular practice group, or is it a firm-wide thing? I've heard that the Business group is quite busy given that work has picked up and the layoffs went so deep. Is the litigation side overworked as well?

I'm the one that said that I found the place weird. It was just a vibe I got, and it may have more to do with me than with them. I tended to like the slightly less stiff and formal firms. The associates that I met with talked non-stop about billable hours and just didn't seem like the type of people that I would get along with in general and just seemed sort of miserable. The partners were just absurdly bizarre. I also interviewed for one specific department though. It may have just been an issue in that practice group.

Any 3Ls hear from them? They did a simplicity posting at my school, but I have not hear back either way.
