I'm a 1L at CCN interested in a summer position at a non-NALP firm back home. Do I need to wait until after 12/1 to ask/apply for a summer spot or is that date only for NALP firms?

Can't hurt to contact them now. Some non-NALP firms obey the rule, some don't. Non-NALP firms are usually slower, though, so I doubt you'd hear back until December or January anyway. Contact them now, follow up on December 1.

It's way, way too early to be formally applying to anything. But, it wouldn't hurt to call/email and just say that you're interested and you'd like to know what there timeline is so that you know when to apply.

I sent them an email asking for more info about their 1L summer program more than a week ago and have yet to hear back. Should I send them a follow up or wait another week?

I met people from 2 different firms during my 1L year at social events. They asked for my resume before Dec. 1st. Most other firms (~80%) told me to hold off until Dec. 1st. NALP guidelines are enforced only by your school and by the firms. There is no NALP police.
