S&C Instant Offer?

What's the deal with this? What does it mean if you don't get an offer on the spot? Has anyone heard of someone getting an offer later on?

I interviewed almost a week ago and have heard nothing. I am assuming a rejection.

I assuming you already had your CB. If not, they way it works is a normal CB up until the last interview, which is scheduled to be fifteen minutes with the head of recruiting. They may have you wait in their reception area while recruiting gets all of your evaluations. If you are to get an offer, she tells you "everyone really liked you. here's your offer" and then you go to lunch. I am not sure what happens if they do not give you an offer. I got an offer (but have since, turned it down), but I would think since they offer like 90% offers, they will likely not give offers to you if you do not get it on the spot. However, if their yield is particularly bad, they may need to. But again, I do not really know. Either way, good luck.

My friend did not receive an offer on the spot because two of his interviewers didn't submit evaluations immediately. He was worried, but he got it a couple days later via phone. So no offer at the end of the CB doesn't necessarily mean a ding.

+1. Same thing happened to me. Sometimes they need to have further discussions about you, or some of the interviewers weren't able to hand in their evaluations in time to have them all considered, so they may need a few days to get everything in order and then make you an offer.

+2. Got the call the next day. Really tacky system, IMO, since the 10% of people who get non-on-the-spot offers end up feeling terrible about it.

Also makes the lunch pretty awkward.

It's true. I got one on the spot after lunch a couple years ago. But didn't accept it. I chose Simpson Thacher instead.

Any regrets? Think STB is potentially a slightly less stressful environment?

Not by much! It's more passive aggressive, if anything, which can be quite annoying at times.

But no regrets choosing STB over S&C as it has practice areas that are more up my alley.
