Hello everyone,
I'm a 2L at the median, so far, over at Emory in Atlanta GA. I know some people have their contentions with Emory, but I'd rather keep this discussion directed towards the following question.
Is is difficult to get a D.A. Job in GA coming out of a school like Emory?
Everyone here wants to do BigLaw, but I'd rather work as a D.A.

Not everyone wants to do biglaw and DA jobs are still competitive. In a non-NYC/LA/Chi city, interest and experience is more important than school rank and grades (but those things are not meaningless). also there is an entire thread on becoming a DA.

From what I've heard from some 3Ls over at Emory, they are kicking ass way better than last year. I don't think you'll have trouble at all...even competing against UGA and GSU.

3L at Emory, just below 1/3, clinical experience here. Unfortunately, the counties here are under a massive budget crisis. One metro county has privatized the emergency responders who get paid per pickup and have actually been moving corpses from the crime scene before investigators have had a chance to arrive. Unlike a lot of the other major offices (New York, Philly, Chicago, Miami), Fulton and the surrounding counties don't do OCI or hold job fairs. You just have to send your resume and hope. One option is to do the apprentice program with DeKalb county while you await bar results and they assist you in placing you in Georgia. Best thing you can do is get experiencience. Field placement with appeals, summer work under 3L practice act and then do the year long field placement.

I'm also a 2L at Emory who is trying to pursue a career in crim law. From what I've seen/been told, although there are budget cuts everywhere, it looks like there is still some hiring going on. To get one of those positions, my general advice would be to do multiple field placements and internships (as the anonymous poster above me mentioned), meet as many prosecutors as possible, and take all of the crim related classes the school offers. If you PM me I can go into more detail and give you some specific people to talk to.

The metro area DA's offices rarely hire out of law school. You'll have much better chances if you are willing to go a little more rural than the surrounding counties.

Cobb DA doesn't normally hire new grads. The solicitor's office does hire fresh grads, though.
Fulton hires fresh grads. Turnover is very high at that office because the DA is terrible. Micromanages and whatnot.
I'm not sure about any of the other counties.
