Ding! With a very nice personal note- why would they write a personal note? You already rejected me, just send me the form letter.

You should appreciate the personal note. It's courteous of them- they want to keep a positive relationship with you, albeit having to ding you. Sometimes the legal community can be smaller than you think.
I got a pretty personal ding once, and it made me feel a lot better about myself than a standard form letter. I now respect that firm a little more than others.

Yea, be grateful. I once got a terse callback ding letter that was 2 sentences long.
