Starting a thread to talk about 3l honors programs. There are a few separate threads for DOJ but I saw nothing for many of the other programs.

I am specifically looking for any status information for Army Corp of Engineers, DHS, Atomic Safety & Licensing Board Panel (ASLBP), Dept of Transportation.

Feel free to post any info on other programs such as HUD, DoS (civil), DOJ, Dept of Interior, EPA, JAG etc.

Any idea how many CB they gave? I know the honors website says they are looking to hire "up to" 9 people.

Yes, people have received interviews. Unfortunately, I have no clue as to how many have gone out.

Heard it from a classmate/friend who received one. We had both applied. Has anyone heard from any other programs?

Update on DOT, they apparently Called back something like 150 applicants from a pool of around 3k. Interviews are happening through October.

I did a call-back with DOT a few weeks ago. They said they were interviewing around 100-150 for 9 positions. Has anyone heard from other Honors programs?

OCC already made its selections for interviews. FCC already did its interviews.

How does TLS feel about government honors attorney programs? Most start at 62k the first year and move up to 75k the second year. Worth it?

my take is: it is worth it. I went to law school, not so much for the money, but to do interesting things. Gov honors programs allow access to some very cool work that you would not be able to do anywhere else. Long term, the Gov offers a better shot at developing a niche/career imo.

That is what I keep telling myself, as I am comparing it to a very nice boutique with "human" hours with a near market salary.

I can confirm that FCC is doing interviews last week and this week. It is my impression that they have made all the calls they are going to make.

On a side note-

That seems like an unusually high number of interviews, especially if people are coming in from out of town. 15 interviews per spot?

Especially since those of us who flew in from across the country had to do it on our own dime. I did not know the numbers in advance, or it would of been a tougher sell. I probably would of still bought my $500 lottery ticket, though.

Edit: I also applied to DHS and the NRB, all silent on that front.

If they aren't paying for it, then it seems like a perfectly fine number of interviews. The only people they are hurting and pissing off are those who they don't hire (since those they do hire won't mind having paid the money) and feel they weren't properly informed of the odds of selection. Fairly low risk to tick off people you aren't hiring. Mean, but practical.

It doesn't seem that practical to me. Each interview requires employees' time. I'm not sure how many people they have conduct the interviews, but let's say it's two attorney. I think it's reasonable to think that to get the best people for 9 spots, you don't need to interview more than 50 (and I think that's a little high). So to interview the extra 50-100 people they spent 100-200 hours of employee time.

Beyond that, it seems very unwieldy to try to narrow down a pool of 150 to 9. Also, as mentioned, it's not great for the applicants.

Does anyone know what the interview/spots numbers are for other honors programs?
