Early 1L Summer Internship Prospect Advice

Yes, yes, its only September, and I'm only a 1L, and I'm talking about internships for next summer.
No, I haven't focused on this at all. Yes, I've been studying my ass off and working diligently. I intend to continue doing so after I finish typing this post.
However, I recently attended an alumni day at my undergrad alma mater and there is a lawyer I met and spoke to at the meeting who wants my resume.
He said, and I quote, "Either I have a job for you in my office, or I'll put your resume up on my lawyer's group resume posting wall, and one of [insert my alma mater here]'s alums will have an internship offer for you in no time. We [my alma mater] guys wait until we see resumes from our alma mater and then we snap them up. We know who the hard workers are..."
Does this mean much of anything? No, no guarantees, and I don't treat it that way.
I know all about the fact that as a 1L, I'm not allowed to even step foot in my law school's career services office until November and I'm not supposed to apply for internships until December according to ABA rules.
I don't want to turn this guy down, as it could lead to something good for the summer after my 1L year, but I also don't want to take steps that will have the ABA breathing down my throat.
I also realize that I can just explain myself to him and send him my resume as soon as I can according to ABA rules, but if I wait too long, he may forget and the offer might not be on the table anymore.
Any advice regarding my situation?
Thanks, in advance!
