Know both very well. Both great firms, and are very similar. Basically the same people, just different work. Bracewell more energy focused. AK more corporate.

Also making this choice. I think I am leaning towards Bracewell for their emphasis on Finance and Structured Deals. Only Akin and maybe V&E has a better derivatives practice in Houston. AK is probably better to see more IPO's on the issuer side, but Bracewell represents at least two of the mid-size TX i-banks on underwriting. AK is definitely better on governance and securities work broadly.
One thing I am concerned about at Bracewell is that there seem to be a lot of associates relative to the other Texas firms. What does this mean for young associates? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I liked the AK people better than those I met at Bracewell. AK seemed more friendly and less formal. May have just been the people I met with, though.
