Accepted an offer… do I have to tell other firms?

Hey everyone,
In August, I blasted out resumes to all of the NALP firms in my target city.
Silence… then last week, I finally received and accepted an offer.
Of course, when it rains, it pours. This week, I have been called 4 times from recruiters looking to set up interviews. Must I tell them that I have already accepted an offer? So far, I have just been declining by saying: "thank you, but I already received an offer and am not interested in interviewing with your firm at this time." I do this to avoid the dreaded, "oh…so where are you going to work?" followup.
How do you guys handle these phone calls? I'm not a fan of divulging my selection to every firm that asks.

No, just say you're very sorry, but you are no longer available for callbacks. If they press you, you could always just say you haven't made up your mind yet.

Send the following letter to the recruiting coordinator:
Dear Recruiting Coordinator:
Thank you very much for requesting to interview me. When I examined your firm's website, I was very impressed with your attorneys' legal abilities and personal accomplishments. However, I regret to inform you that I will not be able to accept a position in your 2012 summer program. There is intense competition among law firms for the limited number of positions that I am able to accept. As a result, I am unable to accept summer positions at many of the well-qualified law firms that request to interview me.
I sincerely appreciate your interest in me, and I wish you the best of luck in the future.

haha that's hilarious.
But seriously, why do the firms dig so much!? I can't ever hang up without answering where.. what ..when ..why. I don't like being dishonest, but I don't want to tell them to mind their own business!

Who cares about telling them which firm you accepted? I always tell them. They wanna know why; I tell them why. What difference does it make?

Just tell them that you have an offer that you are most likely going to accept, and then if they ask for more then it makes more sense when you tell them that you would prefer not to say more at this time.

Yes, you should tell the other firms that you have accepted another offer. Whether or not you share details is up to you. Just be polite & direct in your response.

Why don't you want to tell them? They aren't going to get emotional like a woman (or man) you two-timed and run off to tell the new hottie how you farted during coitus once.
If you REALLY don't want to tell them, say you are deciding between a few offers and let that be it. Or, just tell them so they can figure out how to better recruit next year and appraise their competition with other firms.

Ugh. I just told firm "X" that I may be accepting a position with firm "Y" and therefore was declining X's interview.
However, I DID accept a position with "Y" already. Is that bad? Firms are in the same market.

Why don't you want to tell them the firm name? Who cares? They are all going to ask, and all anybody ever said to me was "that's a great firm, good luck." They just want to know. Wouldn't you?

There are far better reasons for a person to do this. Dat Ritz, dat Four Seasons, dem meals before your flight, dem fancy lunches... all fo FREE.

I stayed in some nice hotels and ate some nice meals, but honestly, after the past few weeks, I sort of just want to sleep in my own bed, eat meals at my own apartment, and not be tempted by the small store that The W put in the corner of my room.

Totally agree - I'm even tired of missing class and having to make up readings. Now a person who jumped on a V5 or whatever because it was the first thing they got or something... who knows.

Why do employers feel like it is ok to ask what firm we have chosen? It would be highly unusual for a student to ask (upon being rejected by a firm) "so what student did you chose instead?".

Just curious, which city was your target market (that is now finally coming around to interview you)? I'm still waiting to hear ANYTHING from so many of these firms I e-mailed in July/August.
