Married, have a kid, originally from Southern California, wife is from NYC. Any feedback for this decision would be helpful:

Quinn (LA): Really interesting lit work, awesome people, high-paying.

Cooley (sd): Owns the San Diego market. Great VC practice. Awesome people as well.

Mtn west midlaw firm: Pitched 5yr partner track, job security.

Allen Overy NY: Good M&A practice, don't have a ton of reasons yet.

Ivins DC. Haven't done the callback yet. They are a tax boutique. Everyone raves about what a great lifestyle tax brings. I have some interest in tax, but I also have interest in VC work, and a lot of interest in lit.

it's one of the top tax boutiques in the country. it has an amazing partner/associate leverage ratio (meaning they bring on people they want to make partner). nuff said

edit: if you don't want to do tax of course, then don't go. =P

how strong of a consideration in choosing firms should this be?

OP here. Ivins does sound great. Tax isn't going anywhere. And, they will split for how many weeks you want.

I think its hard as a 2L, having never done real tax to put them up against these other options.
