When do associates get their own office?

Someone mentioned this should factor into one's decision. No judgment on that suggestion, but I haven't asked at my callbacks so I'm polling TLS.

Paul Weiss?
Davis Polk?
Skadden?
Weil?
Kirkland?
Cleary - I hear within the first year?!

These are just the ones that I want to know but feel free to list others so that the thread becomes a resource.

You will prob not get your own office anywhere in NYC in the first yr. Some Cleary first yrs have, but other do not. I know DPW 3rd yrs who are still sharing offices.

If you want your own office that bad, NYC might not be the place to get it.

The question is not "at what firm will I get my own office first year", but "when, at various firms, do associates get their own office".

But thanks! The info re: DPW is helpful.

Kirkland associates (including summer associates, as of last summer) get their own office from day 1. As far as I know, this is the case for the Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C. offices. Probably is also true for the San Francisco, Palo Alto, Los Angeles, and London offices too.

Latham associates get their own offices right away. Even summers got their own this year.

Davis Polk gives you an office after your second year (I interviewed with a rising 3A who already has his/her own office and they confirmed this).

Edit: after reading the post above, I guess this isn't a hard and fast rule (?)

Well, they probably just had a lot of extra office space lying around unused.

I think getting an "office" is pretty standard your first year. The more important question is how long it takes to get a windowed office.

On a related note, has anyone seen that USA show Suits? What major law firm makes their associates sit in cubicles like that?

Guess not? While not terribly important, it is something that would be nice to know.

Sullivan associates share as first years and then get their own offices.
