Partner-Track Associates: $175,000?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Sep 05, 2011 10:53 pm

On another board, there are references to a possible increase to $175,000 for New York (and New York only).

Many of the responses state unequivocally that "partner-track associates" have started well above $160,000 for some time now.

First, is this true?

Second, are firms putting 3Ls on partner track from the get-go -- or is this a different scale after the associate has been there for a while?

Any help would be great.

Didn't you see the thread asking how many more JoS A Bank suits one can buy with that kind of salary bump? That was downright hilarious.

Oh but you have misunderstood, young lad. It is not the joke that is supposed to be funny. Its the reaction of those who take the joke seriously. Now thats the funny part.

But yeah, in all seriousness, they were just messing around

I think the implication was that some would be partnership-track and others would be senior-associate track.

Sad thing is, that's not unthinkable.

I'm totally marching into my bosses office later today and demanding that my new title be "Partnership Track Associate." Anything else is TTT.

Because they're huge douches. They pay $175k to graduates of HYSCCN and $70k to everyone else. Basically, the office is 20 partners, 5 partner-track associates (hired only from HYSCCN) and 40 slave-labor associates who work 3000 hours a year for beans. Got to be a terrible environment to work in, even if you're on the partnership track.

Wiley Rein does a similar thing, but it's not as miserable a place to work.

Also, any law firm that employs staff attorneys does this too...

Irell must do something extra, because they are known for high compensation. Maybe they just have enormous bonuses.

They did in 2009, but bonuses were market for 2010. All of this is easily verifiable.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
